2 main features of Quora is to get information and to share information.

By reading people questions and answers, you may just learned something new.
And by involve answering people questions, you may help them and proof that you are expert in the field.
Other features are like upvoting, downvoting.

Difference with Reddit
Many people including me must have been asking, how this app different from Reddit?
Well, one thing I note is that Quora must be in question and answer format, while Reddit doesn't always in Q&A format, Reddit can be anything from just sharing text and links.

Another thing that makes them different is Quora is more UI and terms friendly while Reddit is more for geeks.

The Verdict
Need answer on something you don't know or curious about or need help to decide something or need suggestions on what to take or not to take, Quora is one of the best place to get all of those.

[FREE iPHONE GAME] Stack - Stack up the blocks as high as you can. How many you can stack them up?

Another creation from Ketchapp, this time is Stack, a simple yet fun and challenging block stacking game.

Gameplay & Objective
Simple gameplay with simple but nice 3D graphics and color, all you need to do is to survive stacking up blocks as long as you can to get as highest score as possible.

The block will goes left and right, tap on the screen when the moving block pass your stack up blocks. If you are doing correctly, tapping the block at the correct time, the block will stack up nicely.

If not, some of the block will get cut and the stack up blocks will getting smaller and smaller.
Redo over and over again, see how many blocks you can stack up.

The Verdict

Stack is fun and entertaining, the game trains whoever plays it to be patient and sharp. Good game to be played by all ages. I score maximum 29 blocks so far. How about you?

[FREE iPHONE GAME] Traffic Rider - Endless Bike Racing Game with Great Graphics, Real Bike Sounds and Career Mode

Gameplay and Objectives

Although the game is 'endless' genre, it has career mode with each level having certain mission that needs to be accomplished to proceed to the next level, such as to reach finish line within the given time, to overtake number of cars and so on.

In order to complete certain level, the game will gives you hint, whether your current bike is powerful enough or not. If you are getting the hint that means it's time for upgrade or even buy a better bike.

Other than career mode, there are endless, time trial and free ride mode.

In order to play other modes, you need to reach certain level first.
Endless mode is basically ride the bike and earn as many scores as you can before crashing. Once crashed, then game will over.
Time Trial mode is to ride the bike within the given time limit.
Free ride is similar to endless mode, but you will never game over.

The Control
It's very easy and simple. Tap on the accelerate button on right side of the screen to accelerate, tap on brake button on the left side of the screen to perform brake.

Remember, when braking from 100KM/h over, it will takes time to full stop, so plan carefully.

The Verdict
With great graphics and first person view, Traffic Rider is entertaining and looks real. If you like racing game and especially if you are kind of bored with cars racing game, then definitely you should try this game. So far the game has received 2000+ over 5-star rating so definitely a must try game.

[FREE iPHONE GAME] Stage Rush: Imagine Dragons - Play The Game. Listen to the Music. Be A Hero. Save The World

Stage Rush: Imagine Dragons is a mission based endless running game with some differences compared to other endless running game: Play as member of the rock band Imagine Dragons and listen to their song while playing.

Gameplay and Objectives
Choose the band member: Dan, Ben, Platz or Wayne. Different member will have different theme songs!

Choose the stage, either Paris or Las Vegas then start run.
The game has both today's objective and game objectives. Complete both to get rewards and upgrades.

Unlike other endless game, game objectives in Stage Rush need to be completed within 1 stage. Only today's objective can be summed up between stages. For example: you have game objective to jump over 5 moving obstacles, you need to jump over it 5 times during 1 game. If game over, then you need to redo again jumping over 5 moving obstacles to complete the objective. Got it? So that's one of the challenges in this game.

The Control
Like other endless running game, the control is mostly the same except in this game, you can walk on the wall (only certain wall) by swipe to the wall direction (left / right). Also you can run by tapping continuously. Certain objective requires you to run to complete the objective.

The rest control is the same: swipe up to jump, double swipe up to double jump, swipe down to slide.

The Music
During the game, you'll hear Imagine Dragons instrumental music. So far I hear: Demons, Radio active, On top of the world. Awesome.

The Verdict
Play for a cause. The game moto is play the game, be a hero, save the world. All the purchases made in this game, some portion of it will goes to donation to help families with cancer. To me, the game is fun and entertaining, especially when the demons song is played.

[FREE iPHONE APP] Microsoft Translator - Translate Text, Voice, Image to language of your choice - Alternative to Google Translate

What is this app about?
Like it's name: Microsoft Translator, it's a translator app - translating from one language to other language, newly built by Microsoft.

Features
Once the app is started, you'll see 4 icons: they are (clockwise) Mic, Conversation, Photo and Keyboard icons.

Mic icon: Tap on this icon for the app start listening to your voice. Choose both from and to language, then speak to the app and the app will start translating. Unfortunately, the app won't read you the translation.

Conversation icon: Tap on this icon to start conversation between 2 languages. For example between English and Simplified Chinese: Tap on the mic icon to start speaking, once done, the app will automatically translated to the other language and vice versa.

The drawback of this feature is the languages the app can listen and translate are still limited. Not all languages is supported yet. And compared to Google Translate app, this app requires you to press the mic correctly when you want to speak to be translated. And the translation result, you need to read it by yourself as the app won't speak it for you.

Photo icon: Tap on this icon if you want to snap a photo (or get from existing photo), to be translated.

Good thing is that, the app will auto detect the language on the photo and translate it to the language of your choice. On my test, the result is good, it can translate 90% of the text correctly.

Keyboard icon: Tap on this icon if you want to key in the text and have it translated. Like the 'Photo' feature, this 'Keyboard' feature also can detect the language you are typing in and translate it to the language of your choice.

The Verdict
Microsoft Translator when compared to its direct and long standing competitor: Google Translator, is still far from perfect as Microsoft still needs to keep adding support to more languages (written and spoken), supports auto detect languages and needs to catch up with the translation speed as I notice, Microsoft Translator still needs 1-2 seconds more to translate compare to Google Translate.
But from the UI side, I can say Microsoft Translator UI is better compared to Google Translate.

ActiveCaptain and Jeppesen Charts - "Marriage Made in Heaven"

Last week Jeppesen announced that it will be integrating the ActiveCaptain data into their popular C-Map chart products. The Active Captain data was introduced on the C-Map charts at the Miami International Boat show and will soon be available on their chart products this spring.

I have reviewed all the ActiveCaptain products over the years including the Location, Drag Queen and the Companion apps. I have been a big supporter of the crowd sourced POI and other data available through their website and the many apps that also provide the data. ActiveCaptain is the world leader in providing a unique set of verified crowd sourced marine data which has made the yachting experience safer and more enjoyable.

ActiveCaptain and their legion of users provide detailed information about marinas, yacht clubs, marine fuel, docks, marine services, anchorages, marina reviews, hazards, shoals, currents, navaids, markers, bridges, locks, dams, ferries, boat ramps and marine stores.

ActiveCaptain has users world wide but the majority of them are located in the United States and cover areas including the east and west coasts, Florida, the Intercoastal waterway, Great Lakes and San Juan Islands.

Jeppesen will include this data in their March release of their C-Map 4D, Max and MaxN+ electronic charting products. These charts are used by many of the leading chart plotter manufacturers including B&G, Simrad, Lowrance, Furuno and Raymarine. This will bring the ActiveCaptain data to millions of new users all over the world.

The C-Map charts will have the latest ActiveCaptain data at the time they are published. Subsequent updated data will be added to new C-Map chart releases.

The ActiveCaptain data in the C-Map chart sets will be static because it will resides in the chart plotter memory. Dynamic updates will not be available like the data in many of the popular mobile device apps using ActiveCaptain. These apps are updated with the latest data from the ActiveCaptain database.

Much of the data about marinas, marine stores, services and bridge heights does not change that often so it is mainly the reviews, hazards and fuel prices that won't be up to date.

The ActiveCaptain data can only be updated when you update your charts on your chart plotter. This is slight draw back so it is recommended that you get more frequent updates to your charts to have access to the latest data. At some point in the future I could see all chartplotters being tied to the Internet and being able to keep the database up to date.

Congratulations go out to the Active Captain crew and Jeppesen for creating this unique relationship. The addition of the ActiveCaptain data to the C-Map charts allow access to this enormous database to millions of new users. Consider using the new C-Map charts on your chartplotter!
